Mamelodi survives ouster plot

Mamelodi

Township Rollers’ dramatic win against cross-town rivals Gaborone United, has reportedly spared the life of club Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Bennett Mamelodi. The man was walking a thin line over alleged issues of sabotage and back-biting moving across Rollers boardrooms.

It is reported that knives were out for the former Botswana Premier League head of secretariat who was accused of bringing foreign players whose performances are lackluster. Moreover, the man is said to have exhausted the foreign quota as Rollers has six players instead of the expected five.

He is accused of signing players willy-nilly. It is said Mamelodi summoned Rollers executive committee members to a meeting sometimes last week to air his sentiments and share his frustrations ever since joining the Jagdish Shah project.

The man who is known to be bold and ambitious when running an organization, is said to have started-off by shaking the Rollers technical team when he sanctioned the sacking of Leutwetse Tshireletso, one of the team’s assistant coach. His mission, according to reports was to also fire Motshegetsi Mafa who is employed by Rollers as the Team Manager.

However, they are those who believe the young brother to Ashford Mamelodi is on the right track and needs to be afforded the right opportunity to employ his mettle.  Sources say Mamelodi has in fact cut Rollers expenditure when buying foreign players. The three regular players playing for the team are said to have been bought at a low fee not exceeding P100 000.

“This is what will ordinarily excite our president Shah, he want a man who can cut costs, imagine buying three foreign players with less than P 100 000. Remember this was not the case before his arrival,” a source shared.

But as things stand, there are those football kingpins inside Rollers who will not want to forgive the man. They believe Mamelodi has hidden treasures with these players and overly taken over the recruitment policy and style of the team. This explains why Rollers foreign winger Aaron Marc Dion ran to hug him after scoring the only goal that won the match.

A section of supporters are circulating information that Mamelodi played a delaying game when Rollers was supposed to sign Lebogang Ditsile, Onkabetse Makgantai as well as Thatayaone Kgamanyane. The trio is with Gaborone United and is instrumental to the team’s rise to the summit of the league since day one. Kgamanyane as things stand is a serious contender of the golden boot.  Should GU clinch the title, all hell might break loose.

Mamelodi joined Rollers last year after a short spell with Jwaneng Galaxy. He was appointed the first ever CEO of Rollers amidst report that Shah would want someone who is active to steward the ship to calmer waters. This, however, divides opinion in as far as his future is concerned at the Blue army. There are those who believe Shah, at some point, will want Mamelodi to be transferred to the either the BFA or the Premier League.
