Botswana’s 1st Women’s Awards

1st-Women's-Awards

Women’s awards Botswana (WAB) is an initiative inaugurated to effectuate space and opportunities for women to meet together, share experiences, resolve challenges and create an everlasting bonds among women.

The founders’ motive is quite clear, not just to elevate the already famous but rather to recognize, celebrate, appreciate and reward the ‘special’ women who made an impact in the country and society. The opportunities is not just to celebrate, but also to learn from and support each other.

The event will be held on the 25th of March 2022 at Travel Lodge which was supposed to be clenched last year but was lamentably contrived by the Covid-19 wave. “We were supposed to hold this event in 2021 but due to quite a rising number of Covid-19 cases we had to withdraw the idea,” said Onalethata Garethata, WAB Public Relations Officer.

WAB celebration will take place each year, where 15 passionate Batswana women will be celebrated who have obtained profound success for their impact and contribution in their respective fields. It recognizes 15 passionate women, in 15 categories ranging from Agriculture, Health, Activism, Sport, Business, Media and more. These women will be honored for the positive impact that they are making in society, as well as for the inspiration they bring to women across the country and beyond.

“These awards stand out as for the first time in Botswana, women are being recognized in such initiatives. I have always loved working with women and you can only imagine what fashion trends will be seen at the event,” Garethata added.

WAB has a challenge of companies showing inferior interest in aiding the event. “We have a few companies showing interest to come on board and assist the event, but we do want to encourage more companies out there who have interest to contact us and begin the journey together,” said Onalethata.

The public had the power to nominate each individuals under all categories. To be part of the nominees, one needs higher nominations done through text votes which unfortunately has the lines been closed. The awards ceremony will encompass speakers from various women organizations in Botswana and performances from local female artists.
