GIMC 2020 still ON

The most sought after and much anticipated show, Gaborone International Music and Culture (GIMC) week is set to resume this year, WeekendLife has confirmed this with the organiser of the event, Fish Pabalinga.

This decision was made after 2020 shows were halted due to the Covid-19 outbreak. However Pabalinga stated that if social distancing is still applicable then naturally the event will not be hosted.

“No industry should go on a total black out, how will artists survive? So one of the reasons for GIMC existence is in growing the value chain, so cancelling will only deepen financial positions of artists,” he said.

“Challenges exist in life to be overcome. Covid-19 has dealt a heavy blow to the creative sector income. As GIMC we are fully committed to ensuring that no artist loses out on support they would have earned from performing at GIMC.”

Pabalinga further highlighted the economic advantage of the show to entrepreneurs that comes with hosting this event hence one more reason not to cancel the 2020 show.

“GIMC has established a sizeable value chain that benefits artists and SMME’s alike and for this reason the management of GIMC is committed to seeing the value prosper in 2020 like all other years,’’ he said.
