Magdaline Lesolebe who is affectionately known as Charma gal and Kabelo Mogwe, were known to be hard nuts to crack when they were still under Culture Spears, a cultural group that tapped into international markets.
They were mostly known for their hit songs such as ‘Mmadikokwana’, ‘Kulenyane,’ and many more hit songs. The group fell apart and Charma Gal paved out her own career path. Even so, we can never dispute the fact that the two were a force to be reckoned with in the industry.
Now the duo have returned with a collaboration dubbed ‘Sibi’, which is already making waves. The song is an incorporation of traditional music and the duo’s two voices are sure a compliment to each other, and finally feeding off the multitudes what they have been anticipating for many years now. The song is sure a knockout and one traditional song of its own kind and still has that feel of the original Culture Spears.
The song was released last week Friday, and has already made their debut on local radio stations such as Duma FM, RB 1, and RB2. It is from Kulenyane album called ‘Didimala Moratiwa,’ which features artist like Dj Siya, Thembeni from Culture Spears and Slindile. Kabelo confirmed with this publication that Kulenyane was a project which he did with different artists and is not a product of Culture Spears.
“Sibi talks about life generally and people who are not honest and still they are making it in life with their lies. Most people are of the idea that we sing about our lives, even the song Kulenyane was not about any occasion that occurred in my life. We sing generally about life. Through this song, we want to relay a message that says some people do not live by the truth or they are not honest so people should be cautious of those,” Kabelo Mogwe said.
From the previous years, people are aware of what happens when the duo are left together in a studio, Mogwe said working with Charma Gal on this song was a walk in the park.“Working with her on this song was a good thing, we have worked together before so it was easy. We understand each other and we know how we compose a song and how we end it as well. We listen to each other,” he said.
Mogwe said that although he worked with many other artists, people seemed to be intrigued more by his songs with Charma Gal.“The response is good and people have been waiting for something like this. I do not know if the song is actually a hit or it is a hit because people have been waiting for my song with Charma Gal,” he said.
In May 2014, controversial pint sized musician, Odirile Sento married his longtime girlfriend, Kagiso Sento in a glamorous wedding, not knowing that eight years later, the two will be fighting until the very end of their holy union.
Mental health is one critical element in someone’s life but gloomily, it is often overlooked. Topics centered on mental health and depression dominate the public discourse. The national conversation surrounding mental wellness, both online and offline has aided in the stigma of suffering from depression being removed, slowly but surely.
