New Gospel group in the offing


Popular gospel artist Vusi Mtukofa, former My Star contestant One Mmokele and Nigerian music director Bimbo Oladapo Johnson adjudicated the We Must Praise gospel group auditions held at Winners Chapel church on Wednesday.


The auditions, held at Winners Chapel Church this past Wednesday were founded My Star former Top 7 contestant Vusimuzi Oteng Botshelo, popularly known from the show as Vusi.


According to the star, the group would be joining him in his quest of bettering gospel music in Botswana. “We Must Praise is a youthful group that sings contemporary gospel and its aim is to elevate Botswana music to international standards,” said Vusi.


The group will be working with Mtukofa of popular song Sefofu who started the foundation Fledan Music Promotions and Nigeria’s Johnson. We Must Praise auditioned aspirants from all over Botswana singing in churches, concerts and corporate events.


Botshelo said after being eliminated from My Star, he aspired to be greater and held on to his passion for singing. He shared that the show gave him confidence, stage management, and singing skills, and that led him into his current project.
During the auditions Johnson advised the contestants saying that music was a way of life but should not be overdone.


Mtukofa said in order for one to succeed they needed to keep in mind that being a gospel artist also meant being a minister. “You need to be able to minister to us, to bless us, to heal us, this kind of music is not for fun but a greater purpose,” he said.
 Thirty one contestants auditioned and 7 singers made it to the group, including another My Star former contestant Tshegofatso Serite who made it to the Top 3 in season 8.


Some of the contestants had come from as far as came as far as Karakubis, Mahalapye, Otse and Ramotswa.
