Rollers, Capital Bank to cut ties

Kaizer Chiefs match caused strain

Township Rollers and one of its main sponsors, Capital Bank are reportedly headed for a major fallout as their contract nears an end, WeekendSport has established.

Information reaching this publication insists that the Bank is not willing to renew the contract terms and agreements after they felt Rollers failed to keep their end of the bargain. Those in the know reveal that there is a new mood of militancy sweeping in between the two parties and their marriage does not encourage a ‘happy ending.’

It is said that the bank felt betrayed in that it was not getting the promised mileage as per the initial agreement and therefore wants out. According to close sources, the bank felt the strain immediately after the champions’ league game between Rollers and Kaizer Chiefs. It is said that the Bank wanted to dominate the front space of Roller’s jerseys during the game between Kaizer Chiefs in the CAF competitions.

This publication has it in good authority that the bank did not brand itself in the Rollers kit while playing the first leg of the confederation cup in mid February. While this is reported to have negatively impacted on the relationship of the two, it is however observed that the same bank had its names on the front of the Rollers jerseys when the two teams played the second leg at the end of February.

When contacted for comment, Rollers Secretary General Khumo Masonya claimed ignorance about Rollers sponsor issues and referred this publication to the team’s chief financier, Jagdish Shah.

The two parties are believed to have signed a two –year deal in which the bank was popped a whopping 1 million pula. Although this deal is kept under wraps at Popa boardrooms, it is believed that the financial assistance extended to the club is playing a crucial part in the administrative aspects.

The team’s back-bone and man blamed for the team’s sponsorship issues Jagdish could not be reached for comment as his phone rung unanswered, at the time of going to press.

His team is caught battling internal issues and his relationship with Somerset Gobuiwang is rocky. The unfortunate issues simmering at the club although denied threaten to throw further the club into a dark hole.

Currently the team’s performance on the pitch has taken a nose dive. They long relinquished the pole position and are about to start perched on the third spot this coming April. At the rate things are going at that club, they stand to lose out on the title they have been defending, leaving them with only the top 8 title as their realistic achievement.
