Orapa United lose Moloi Protest

Botswana Premier League has dismissed a protest lodged by Orapa United after against Mochudi Center Chiefs over the use of Pontsho Moloi in their top of the table clash as they believed that he was a defaulter.

United had launched a protest as they believed that Moloi played against them while he had accumulated a total of five yellow cards hence the cautions did not qualify him for the April 12 encounter.

However, the Premier League statement has indicated that the league Disciplinary body has instead found the league champions guilty of fielding Moloi in their encounter against Police XI in week 15, in the first stanza of the 2014/15 league season. The DC found out that Moloi was already on three yellow cards and was a defaulter for their encounter against Police XI.

In dismissing Orapa’s protest, the DC statement states that after the week 15 encounter, Moloi’s cautions were cancelled and hence the next two yellow cards he received later, did not qualify him for a defaulter against United.

“We therefore hold that Orapa United has failed to discharge the burden of proving that Mr Moloi accumulated three yellow cards immediately prior to the game between the parties as required by the regulation 3.3 of the BFA play rules and regulations,” read the statement.

However according to the statement Magosi were fined P3000.00 for having not followed the rules and regulations and fielding Moloi in their week 15 battle against Police XI. In addition, the DC also challenged the Premier League to start considering early warnings to clubs when their players are eligible for suspension as it is the case with FIFA and CAF when National teams compete.
