Amos buries Rudisha

The 800m King scoops P100 000 prize

Nigel Amos this Thursday decisively outpaced his Olympic archenemy Kenyan, David Rudisha at the 2015 IAAF Diamond League in Lausanne, Switzerland on Thursday indefinitely bagging a cool $10 000 (BWP 99600) and a spot at Rio 2016 Olympics.

Amos, clocked a time of 1.43.27 to Rudisha’ s 1.43.76 unfalteringly claiming victory over the bisson-bodied Olympic gold medallist who proficiently denied the then teenage Amos the ultimate golden glory at the 2012 summer Olympics in London, in a reverting 800 metre contest in front of an enthusiastic Swiss crowd at Lausanne’s Stade De La Pointase on Thursday.

Amos stamped his authority over the Kenyan race track star whose awe-inspiring 2012 summer Olympic showing, has been branded “The Greatest  800 Metre Race Ever”, where he exhibited magnificent track general-ship leading the two lap race from front, from the beginning to the end with turbo charged pull-away’s from the entire crowd.

Amos who now is edging along with Briton Mo Farah towards bagging himself an additional $10 000 (equivalent to around P100 000) as the overall remarkable act of the 2015 edition of Diamond league, had his own sweet revenge come by way of scuttling 26 year -old Rudisha’s campaign of replicating his 2013 New York Diamond league performance. Amos picked up on the last lap markedly propelled by a fair amount of energy reserves whizzing past the anxious and dead beat Kenyan champion.

Unlike in the 2012 London Summer Olympic games where he had to be ferried away in a stretcher after a gruelling and physically taxing athletic contest eerily reminiscent of the Ali-Frazier Zairean jungle bartering, the now more experienced and refined Amos completed his race widening the space between him and Rudisha with a few metres in the final moments of finishing the lap stamping his authority with a convincing victory to top his other four conquests over the Kenyan.

Returning from an injury the somewhat inconspicuous youth emerged in the same race to decisively and brutally relegate Ethiopian world champion Mohammad Aman, who has had an unwavering presence, menacingly hovering around the top of the 800 meter title fight to oblivion in a contest where only real competition now lies between Amos and Rudisha.

The 21 year-old Amos who is a world junior record holder and one of the fewest athletes to run under one minute and forty two seconds at the Olympics has now become a force to be reckoned with in the 800 metre realm of athletics as he gradually athletically refines with age, breathing life into the prospects of Botswana’s first national gold medal at the beckoning 2016 Rio summer Olympic Games.

Botswana National Olympic Committee Chief Executive Officer Tuelo Serufho expressed delight at Amos’ superlative Diamond League performance, ”we are delighted that he’s performed exceptionally well more so that he has just come out of an injury and we are also headed for the August World Championships.”
