Miss Botswana Fashion Show thrills


The much anticipated Miss Botswana 2015 Fashion show did not disappoint. Remaining true to the promise to thrill, the show kicked off on a high note by co-hosts for the evening Andre Leungo Pitse and Cliff Central’s Oneal Zibanani Madumo.


The two kept the audience in stitches with their friendly banter.  With an all Botswana cast of designers, performers’ and the contestants, patrons were treated to a night full of pleasant surprises. For the 30 contestants the stakes were high with each one of them hoping to secure a slot in the top 20 with the expectation to then make it in to top 12.


The spectacular show was a combination of showcasing exquisite collections from established designers, upcoming designers and student designers represented by Gaborone Technical College and Limkokwing University of Creative Technology.


Kick starting the show was Aobakwe Molosiwa – Gilded Sands, who had the contestants take to the stage in delicate swimwear inspired outfits. Then it was Kaone Moremong of House of Kay who dazzled the audience with her polka dot creations. Then it was celebrated Lame Chilume of Switch Couture before the student designers from Gaborone Technical college.


The young Designers (Winners of the President Celebrations) held their own and made a great impression with their designs. Thato Mminatau – Glitz Fashion Designs, Lorato Barwabatswile – LT Peculiar Couture,Oganne Baitsile Apara Clothing Company before talented Candida Tsheko – DIH –DAH.


All the collections were accompanied by carefully selected music that gave the designs character. Botswana’ celebrated artists who gave stellar performances included Ozi F teddy, Chef Gustos, and songstress Samantha Mogwe captivated the audience, delivering tracks from her debut album which was launched the night before the fashion show.


All 30 contestants received Samsung Galaxy tablets with internet access capped at 1GB a month for a period of 24 months from Bofinet, presented by Communication, PR and Marketing Specialist, Kungo Mabogo.


Then it was the exhilarating moment of announcing the top 20.  Gracing the stage in Black Trash and ThabieD designs the top 20 were revealed.

In an unexpected twist, the judges added 4 more slots, to have top 16. Judge, Boitswarelo Lebang explained that throughout the competition the contestants continued to  be assessed with concentration going to the 4 main areas being; Top Model, Beauty with a purpose, talent and an athletic  disposition of the contestants.


“The contestants have all worked hard and deserve to go further in the competition. As the judges we have been thoroughly impressed by the hard work and conviction displayed throughout hence the executive decision to have Top 16.”An announcement well received by both the contestants and the audience. The show was ended on a high note with the Limkokwing Fashion Club making its debut on the continent. The fashion forward collection has only ever been showcased in London, Milan and Malaysia.
