ECCO turns to former stars

Cash strapped ECCO City Greens are hoping that the availability of its former stars into fold will add more value to the club seeking an immediate promotion back to the rebranded be-MOBILE Premiership next season.

Mamojadiskie, as ECCO is affectionately known in football circles battled to make a significant impression for the better of the 2014/15 be-MOBILE premiership in order to maintain its status in the biggest league on the land.

But life in the unfashionable Debswana First Division North League is not a bed of rosy. It is against this backdrop that the green stomachs of Francistown are doing everything within their power to ensure they make a quick bounce back to the elite league.

The Texan Phiri coached side unveiled some of the club’s veterans during their first league match against highly spirited Kazungula Young Fighters played before a capacity crowd last Saturday at the Kasane Prisons Grounds.

Information reaching WeekendSport is that the once mighty Mamojadiskie have agreed terms with a number of veterans who previously turned out for the green side of Francistown some three or so seasons ago.

During their last weekend match in Kasane, ECCO unveiled ageing Gaborutwe ‘Radio’ Gaboratanelwe, midfield maestro Gabaitumele ‘Duiker’ Seabe and the hard running Nicholas Matlhare.

WeekendSport has been reliably informed that left back Mothusi Lesotlho, prolific striker in Elijah April and the evergreen Bolelang ‘King Goals’ Malepa are expected to rejoin the former league champions.

“We are leaving no stone unturned in our quest to win an immediate promotion back to the elite league,” confirmed the ECCO spokesperson Ontiretse Israel revealed that plans by the Debswana First Division North League debutants.

However, Israel could not be drawn into discussing the names of all the veterans who once did a duty for the Francistown based outfit during the 2006/07 season. At the time, the premiership was being sponsored by Mascom.

“When ECCO won the league, the club had only three seasons in the topflight football. This shows that the players who were turning out for the club during that time were dedicated and determined in everything they were doing for the club,” said Israel.

Israel told WeekendSport that bringing the players back into fold might result in the club winning the promotion immediately. He said the club’s intention is to regain their premiership status as quickly as possible.

Meanwhile, ECCO will this (Saturday) afternoon travel to Serowe for a date with Tsabotlhe FC in a second week game to be played at Newtown Grounds.
