Coaches feeling the heat already

Extension Gunners has since suspended their coach Keitumetse “Pio” Paul

Pressure is mounting at the newly branded premiership. As teams enter the ninth round of the Botswana Premier League, some are already on panic mode and the technical heads are the victimised in the process.

GALAXY FIRES RADIPOTSANE

Rookies Jwaneng Galaxy was first to crack under the heat, firing coach, Oris “Boyo” Radipotsane. The bosses at the side have said the decision was arrived at as they “wanted to give him enough time to focus at the senior national football team” where he is assisting.

However the reason has been poured scorn by commentators saying “it does not hold water” as players from the side playing for the national team could have also been afforded time as well. The team has so far managed to amass only six points after winning only one game at home against Green Lovers 5-2 before sharing spoils against Township Rollers, BR Highlanders, and Orapa United.

They gained elite league promotion under the Pilikwe born mentor last season, the expectation was that he would steer them to a respectable position in the competitive be-mobile league more especially after the performance they dished against Rollers at Molepolole.

They have signed quality players like the young goalkeeper Ezekiel Morake, Tebogo “Mateo” Sembowa to mention but a few who were adding on the other quality at the diamond mining town. Philani Mabhena is now heading the technical department.

INDISCIPLINE MIGHT COST PIO

Another side that left many in awe is Extension Gunners who has since indefinitely suspended their coach Keitumetse “Pio” Paul. They are currently perched in position six with 13 points. The 42 year old was suspended for the utterances he made following his side’s 1-0 loss to rivals Mochudi Centre Chiefs last weekend.

“I was not happy with the way they played especially the defence, and there was no need to motivate them they had thousands of people supporting them, so it is upon them to pick up their socks, if they don’t we will have to look for those who are willing,” the former national Under 23 coach was quoted on Duma fm. Gunners, who started the league promising, are now in a downward spiral, they lost 3-1 against Orapa before playing a draw against Miscellaneous and then losing to Chiefs.

The coach is also said to be facing charges of suspending his assistant coach Motswadi “Ten-Ten” Motswadi. Mapantsola are now under the helm of Aupa Kowa as they head to another tricky away clash against Police XI today. Looking at the nature of the local teams it could be concluded that chances of Paul bouncing back are very slim, and this could be a defining moment on how Guna-Guna will fare this season after that inspiring start.

GUMBO’S DAYS NUMBERED

Another coach who is facing uncertainty is Allen Rahman Gumbo of Gaborone United. Ever since his departure to Zimbabwe the team has managed to collect six points from both Miscellaneous and Police XI by a solitary goal consecutively.

The team is under the technical director Dragjolio Stanolovich. Although the management has vehemently denied the impending booting, indications are his days are numbered at the Zola based side. Motlakase has long demoted Coach Agang Mogotsi to assist Blessing Moyo but still results are yet to show. Other teams are also likely to fire their coaches as the season continue to prove too tough.
