Gadibolae: Botswanas prospective warrior

When news broke out on Monday evening that a Police XI winger had been voted this month’s player of the season, it came as no shock; in fact his omission in this month’s edition was bound to raise eye-brows.

Tapiwa “Navara” Gadibolae has been doing well for his side and helped them occupy the first spot for some time before Township Rollers toppled them, bringing them a notch down to position two with 19 points.

The 22 year old Nata born started playing football during his primary school days at Letsholathebe in Maun and also in the Re Ba Bona Ha grassroots program. He then continued his studies at Maikano Junior in Gaborone West before going to Naledi senior to complete his BGCSE level.

While in G-wawa as the notorious location is known, he was under one of the under-celebrated academy Top Stars of Lovemore Mpofu. This is where his ambition to play in the top flight started shaping up. “It is one of those moments I will forever cherish in my football life,” the soft spoken winger told WeekendSport.

While under Mpofu’s tutelage, it was then that his talent aroused Happy Hearts. “I joined Happy Hearts before going to GU for six months then Rollers offered me a contract,” he said. After predicting a bleak future at Popa, he asked for a lone move to the Police assisted side. “I opted for Police because it is in Gaborone and I saw it as a team that can help me in terms of game-time,” said the right footed player.

Ever-since he joined the Jungle Kings at the beginning of the season the player has been enjoying his life under the eye of Maitumelo “junior” Lotlaamoreng. Currently he has scored three goals. Last weekend he broke the hearts of multitudes of Extension Gunners’ fans when they won by his solo goal and subsequently voted man of the match. “I believe in hard work and it is paying dividends and I will continue with it,” he promised.

Gadibolae has seen his performances earning himself national team caps. He featured in the Independence Day clash against Ethiopia where he was substituted in the first half due to injury. The winger who dons jersey 14 at his club and 2 at the national team has promised the Police XI fans that they want to improve from last season.

The 22 years old follows on the footsteps of Green Lovers marksman Moathodi “Skhebo” Ralesota who won the inaugural edition along with sacked Gunners coach Keitumetse “Pio” Paul. Coach of the Month went to Rollers’ Mark Harrison who is yet to lose a game going into the ninth round of the premiership.
