Shah rebuffs Somerset – again

Indian business tycoon and Township Rollers financier, Jagdish Shah has snubbed, yet again attempts by  the country’s soccer administrators to bring him and Somerset Gobuiwang under the same roof, for mediation.

According to WeekendSport sources, the two were called for another conciliatory meeting where FIFA development officer Ashford Mamelodi was hand-picked as a mediator, this past Monday. No deal was brokered though as Shah reportedly did not mince his words again, out rightly dismissing pleas of ever working with Gobuiwang. Shah is reportedly adamant that his philosophy is different from that of Gobuiwang and there is no how they can ever work together.

The meeting follows another failed attempt by the president of the Botswana Football Association (BFA), Tebogo Sebego on 21 September.

It is alleged that Shah is not relenting and wants Township Holdings- the company tasked with running the daily affairs of Township Rollers Football Club to be liquidated.

This according to reports will consequently mean the control of the club falls off. However, there are some reports that suggest that Shah is readying himself to hand over everything to the management committee and look elsewhere-a position giving the Rollers family sleepless nights. According to those close to the developments, Shah does not want to be compensated for any of the money he injected on the team.

Reports that Somerset Gobuiwang has identified and lined a certain individual to become the chief financer cannot altogether be ignored. His insistency to tighten the grip on Rollers’ reins even on the face of his indebtedness sketch a picture of somebody with intent.

According to Mamelodi‘s secretary, Mamelodi was not available for comment as he was “still outside the country.”

While suspicions are rife that there are some advisers who are pulling the strings behind the scenes and influencing both men’s decisions, they are yet to be identified. It is well known that the Indian mogul was not in the business of football until he met Gobuiwang.

At the time of his arrival, he found Gobuiwang surrounded by a team of men who were hungry to take the club to greater heights. It seems, however, that the likes of Khumoyame Masonya, the executive secretary, once a close ally of Gobuiwang has since changed tact, and is now a close associate of Shah.

When he arrived at the MmaMasire west based giants, Masonya was always the right hand man to Gobuiwang. The men were always seen to be knitting ideas together, even at the time Mookodi Seisa started threatening to fight for the club’s power.

Meanwhile, Chairman, Spencer Mmui’s rein is akin to a paradox. Although those close to him used to admire his administration skills, especially on football matters, there are those who believe that his indecisiveness is his main weakness. There have been allegations from some quarters in the football circle that the current challenges facing the club are a result of his indecisiveness to the extent that his detractors label him a turn coat. He has been Gobuiwang’s moral voice for a considerable time.

As for co-chair Walter Kgabung, he is seen as the lead character in the matter and has represented the interim committee at all meetings. Many have less regard for his opinions in football matters as they perceive him as a new comer in football administration. But those close to him will vouch for his scheming antics. They believe that he has a cunning way of always getting things done his way as signified by the current case involving the BPL Chief Executive Officer.
