Panicky Chiefs appoints Pio assistant coach

Trouble-torn Mochudi Centre Chiefs have finalised talks with former assistant national team coach, Keitumetse ‘Pio’ Paul about making him the team‘s next deputy coach as their struggle to build a solid technical team continues.

According to insiders at the club, all formalities have been concluded, with him already been introduced to players on Wednesday afternoon. His arrival at the club is seen as a way of aiding the club avoid falling from the log. Although, the possibility of hiring Paul hurts and excites Chiefs faithfuls in equal measure, the Kgatleng side has taken a bold decision after the management decided to review the entire technical team.

While it is now a overt fact that the team is losing premier league pedigree with reports of power struggles and issues of the players’ welfare not helping the situation, a cautious approach  is said to have been adopted around the timing of the decision and a rightful candidate who can help turn around the club ‘s fortunes.

Prior to appointing Pio, the team‘s is said to have been clouded with fear and doubt, as to what their deliberation would breed at the side. Recent reports have revealed that assistant coaches roped in at the club have been known to sabotage the head coaches; no wonder Sithole preferred Jalal Zayeed where ever he goes.

Dependability on former assistant coaches at the Kgatleng side has over the past been a major stumbling block, particularly when head coaches were not available.  This recent development goes to prove that Paul high ranking members at the club, who are Paul’s sympathisers could have pulled some strings to accommodate him to help place the team in a respectable position.

So far, the team has lost two of its last games, generating fears that the Top 8 tourney will once again elude them. They beat premier league rookies Green Lovers by a solitary goal and later lost painfully to league pacesetters Township Rollers by 3-2.  In their following fixture, revived Gilport Lions deepened their wounds when they held them to a 2-2 draw, placing even the head coach under immense pressure.

The team has signed a total of five new players as an effort to solidify their stand in the elite league. They occupy the fourth spot after 12 games and have collected only 22 points. However, premier league records show that the team has slightly slipped as compared to last year‘s performance at this stage. After 12 games last season, Chiefs was sitting curiously on third spot having accumulated only 24 points before leap frogging Township Rollers to eventually win the title.

The team’s media liaison, Clifford Mogomotsi could not be drawn into discussing the details of Pio’s alleged appointment. “There is nothing concrete we can talk about as of now, we will give official communication once everything else is dealt with,” he said.

Despite the spokesperson refusal to concede to Paul’s appointment, the Mochudi Centre Chiefs official website states clearly that Paul has been roped in as the new assistant coach.
