BFA, All Kasi agree terms

ALL KASI IS BACK: BFA and All Kasi have signed a new deal and everyone is happy…

There is excitement in the football panorama all thanks to Botswana Football Association’s (BFA) success in revising their constitution to put it in line with FIFA and interestingly agreeing a deal with All Kasi.

All Kasi a 100 per cent citizen owned company Tsa Gae Pty Ltd has previously sponsored the national team from 2008 to 2012. The initial deal, agreed during the presidency of David Fanu come to an end amid an acrimonious relationship between BFA top brass and All Kasi owners.

BFA President Tebogo Sebego was cagey on revealing the nitty-gritties of the deal. However this publication can authoritatively reveal that All-Kasi will be the technical sponsors for the national team. The deal is expected to be unveiled in the near future.

In another milestone achievement, the Sebego led Association has concluded a long journey of sweat and struggle in making sure that their constitution meets the FIFA recommendations.

The international football governing body after vetting gave the local association a green light to adopt the constitution that will be used in the next BFA elective congress in July. “We expect the constitution to be registered at the Registrar of Societies in three weeks’ time,” Sebego confirmed on Thursday.

In the new constitution which could aid in BFA’s restructuring exercise, some posts are going to be discarded with only seven positions left. The president will have two assistants being the first vice and second, in the past constitution, there was VP Administration, Finance and Technical. Again, as per the FIFA wish, within the National Executive Committee (NEC) there should be position that will be created specifically for a female as part of the affirmative action and four additional members which will bring the total to seven members.

The delegates eligible to vote have been reduced significantly from over 100 to only 60. Each region will send only two representatives; the Chairperson and secretary, while both North and South Divisions will send four representatives with all the premier league teams represented. Others that will be allowed will be the associates members like BOPPSA, BISA and BOTESSA who will be participating but not voting.

The BFA will this time around vote the whole committee for a period of four years unlike what has been the case where the voting period differed depending on the positions. The current VP Finance, Marshlow Motlogelwa is a notable late comer who had to catch up with other horses that had long taken off.

Football commentators have also given the amendment a thumb up as they believe it is significant for the growth of football in Botswana. “BFA was never going to grow under the current set-up and with these changes it’s a leap of faith to the right direction of football,” sports journalist Thabo Osekeng opined.

The amended constitution will give the President more powers as they will meet with the NEC on intervals. This will allow the leader to take decisions promptly if there is need and not have to call a series of meetings with the rest of the committee where decisions at times are delayed.
