POINTS OF WAR: FC Satmos has lost three points for fielding a defaulter
The country’s domestic football administrator has a tough decision to ponder. Allegations are rife that Botswana Football Association is contemplating to altogether dissolve one of its standing bodies, the National Disciplinary Committee(NDC) for allegedly making decisions which are against the ‘morals’ of the Association-WeekendSport has been informed.
This follows pronouncements made by the body over some time which have gradually put the Association on the back foot. Reports suggest that the committee which is mandated to declare disputes between clubs and the association’s premier league, has resolved that Notwane’ s case should seriously be heard before the Association takes any drastic measures.
The team had rushed to the courts seeking legal redress after complaining that Maun based outfit Sankoyo Bush Bucks had fielded a defaulter in their encounter. When relegation bells rung, the club rushed to the High Court, albeit against FIFA rules that distinctively state that football matters should not be taken to ordinary courts of law.
Although sources reveal that not all want the committee to be dissolved, the mood on the ground is that the N.D.C is exposing (BFA), consequently throwing them into a bottomless pit of misery. The association’s NEC members are wary of the fact that this is an election year and any blunders from their part will likely see the association suffering harsh back lash.
The committee includes among others, Tobakani Chilume, former BFA member Dintle Mphele and Martin Dingake.
Another case pointed out by those concerned within the committee is the matter of struggling Selibe Phikwe side FC Satmos and partner in struggle Green Lovers. It is said the NDC has presided in the case involving the two teams and acknowledged that Satmos be given back their three points because Green Lovers had no sufficient proof that Satmos used an unregistered player.
Reports suggest that the premier league disciplinary committee had initially declared that Satmos were in the wrong when fielding Sadique Takunda who is now playing for BDF XI. Lovers gained the soft three points but Satmos appealed at the disciplinary committee and declared that the points be given back. The National Executive Committee (NEC) of the association in conjunction with premier league then reversed the decision of NDC where Green Lovers still profited.
Since the events unfolded, the credibility of the NDC is perceived to be dented which has led the local mother body to consider dissolving it. Premier league Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Bennett Mamelodi refused to comment on the matter and referred this publication to BFA CEO Kitso Kemoeng. Efforts to reach BFA CEO hit a brick wall as his secretary continued to return answers that he is locked in a series of meetings.
The national disciplinary committee is a sub structure under the wing of Botswana football Association. Its main objective is to sit on cases that aggrieved clubs file for appeal. As a way of procedure, the committee presides on matters that premier league disciplinary committee failed to thoroughly deliberate on.
The Manchester United defender will now focus on his club career having made 93 caps for France, appearing at three world cups and on European championship. The Les Bleus won the World cup in 2018 and Raphael Varane started all but one of France’s matches in Qatar as they finished as runners up to Argentina
With many being of the view that the state of football in Botswana has deteriorated significantly as it is no longer appealing to the business community, this was a good week for the football community. The Botswana Football Association (BFA) leadership under the stewardship of MacLean Letshwiti secured sponsorship for a combined value of P19. 3 million for the FA Cup competition and the First Division league – both South and North.
