Bright walks through Zulu storm

Major David Bright has been sacked by his club Thanda Royal Zulu after enduring a season of poor results this Thursday and one Roger Sikhakhane has been approached as his replacement- WeekendSport has been informed.

Zulu failed to elevate to a better position under his tutelage as his future at the team grew ever precarious, and his hopes dashed. The Botswana born gaffer’s contract was terminated following the end of the first stanza of the season appraisal.

Bright might be a popular figure at Royal Zulu, from executive level to first-team squad, but the authority has not hesitated to remove him given the team’s unconvincing display in the national first division campaign in which they are nine points behind Baroka FC.  A prevailing view is that Bright has failed to improve the team.

When Black Leopards management sacked David Bright after he oversaw a dismal championship defence in the 2014-15 season the management stated the fundamental reason was because there was minimal evidence of the side evolving under the former soldier.

Zulu is preparing for a tough examination against his former club Black Leopards. Leopards is on top while Zulu is on the 12th spot after accumulating 16 points from 18 games.

His insistence on always playing in an attacking mode meant he fielded a formation that is still conceding more goals and scoring few. The team has found the net 20 times but conceded 32 goals.

When signing a 2 year deal at Zulu Bright ascended as the firm favourite to turn around the club’s fortunes, but with a string of losses under his belt, management is in sombre moods.

Sikhakhane is believed to be a perfect candidate but he is viewed as too pragmatic in style. However relations with Thanda top brass are believed to be tact and that alone might work in his favour.

While Bright has been racing against time when the air at Thanda Royal Zulu was thick with desire to expel him, there are some who however think the controversial Botswana coach could have be allowed to walk through the storm to the end. But his character and humility are other factors that were considered, reports say.

Whether the club could have granted him that leeway is no longer an issue of concern ,with the management now on the verge of counting the cost of another failed regime. While recent results had made Bright’s looming departure inevitable, there is intense frustration among the hierarchy over the part the players played in the team's downfall.

The owners are said to be slowly monitoring the situation. Those present are to warned in no uncertain terms to step up their efforts to rescue the current campaign. The recognition that the squad needs to be overhauled remains, with senior players, some of whom were resistant to the team’s attempts to reduce their involvement in the side, still expected to depart in the next transfer window.
