Growing up in Morwa village in Kgatleng District, Thabang Molotsi, an ambitious young girl had a dream of becoming a reputable model of note and to appear on international stages. Fast forward to 2016, she is living her dream.
While what she deemed her big break in 2008 didn’t turn out as she imagined, not making it then as the “Face of Africa” did not deter her, two years down the line, she would be one of the most talked about and most celebrated models in neighbouring South Africa.
As a professional model Molotsi is currently residing in South Africa and signed with one of the top modelling agencies in Africa, Boss Models based in both Cape Town and Johannesburg. She has participated in almost all top notch fashion events such as the South African Fashion Week, modelling works of that country’s top designers such as David Tlale.
She has also worked with South Africa’s most watched television soapies such as 7delaan, Ashes to Ashes and Zabalaza. She is currently a student at Boston University; she also does television commercials and billboards for businesses such as one for News Cafe which she is still working on.
“I believe in myself, I believe in people, I love working with different people. I did radio presenting, currently doing television presenting and love interacting with people because you might learn one or two things from them. The best feeling ever is helping people and expecting nothing in return, so I say if you have a helping hand do that for the goodness of your heart because you might change someone's life,” she said in an exclusive interview this week.
When talking to WeekendLife, the busy model confirmed that she was in yet another shoot, doing adverts that include billboards for print and the internet for News Cafe and that she had more jobs coming soon.
“Being from a small village of Morwa, I found it fit to help one of the local football teams in my village with their training equipments such as soccer balls, cones and other stuff that they need. The reason being is to keep them busy as most of them have plenty of time in their hands which they can end up using for unpleasant things,” she said.
Her modelling career can be drawn as far back as 2008 when she made it to top 10 Face of Africa model search in Botswana. She also then joined Gemstone top 30 model search and according to her that is the route that defined her career path. It opened doors to her, later she had the opportunity to grace all the top fashion shows in Botswana, the likes of Colour in the Desert, Gaborone Fashion Week, Botswana Fashion Week, Shinning Light Awards and so on.
“I must say all the fashion shows I walked on were an amazing experience, my greatest moments was working with international designers like Laquan Smith, David Tlale, Taibo Bacar, Thula Sindi and of course our local designers Mpho Kuaho, Mothusi Lesole, Black Trash, Lebo Merafhe, Botho Chalebgwa and Koketso Chiepe.”
Molotsi has also had the chance of gracing renowned magazines such as Soul Magazine in the June 2012 and February 2013 issues. She was featured in the cover page of Peolwane Magazine. She also did billboards for sports and Aids awareness in Johannesburg.
