Botswana is no. 1 country to visit in the world!

Botswana is the top country to visit in the world in 2016, beating Japan and the USA amongst others, according to the Lonely Planets' just released 11th Best in Travel rankings, forecasting the top travel destinations for 2016.

Lonely Planet described the country as “Democratic, progressive, enlightened – but above all invigoratingly wild.”

“The story of Botswana’s journey from poverty to become one of Africa’s most stable, thriving societies is inspirational; the country celebrates 50 years of independence in 2016 and there’s a lot for it to shout about, not least the way it has balanced economic growth with protecting its natural riches. Prepare for a severe case of slack-jawed-with-awe syndrome when you visit,” further states Lonely Planet in its description of the country.
At spot number four is Palau, with Latvia, Australia, Poland, Uruguay coming in at 5th, 6th, 7th and 8th. Fiji is at number 10 while Greenland in on 9th spot.

Furthermore, it says, “Botswana is a unique destination: an unusual combination of desert and delta that draws an immense concentration of wildlife. It is wild, pristine and expansive.”

Lonely Planet has further said that the impression that the country is not easy to get into and doesn’t cater for families isn’t true. It said because of this belief, Botswana has stayed off the radar for most people, albeit having a number of accolades, notably, its conservation crown-the Okavango Delta becoming Unesco’s 1000th World Heritage Site in 2014.
