Nando’s keeps its eyes on diabetes

In its continued efforts to increase diabetes awareness efforts across the country, Nando’s hosted the Nando’s Walk for Diabetes that took place on Saturday 5th November at The Blue Tree World of Golf.

SimisoNcube, Nando’s Botswana Marketing Manager, said as a company that encourages healthy lifestyle choices, they partnered with the Diabetes Association of Botswana (DAB) 4 years to increase awareness. The aim of the walk is to promote physical activity to reduce the incidence of diabetes, obesity and high blood pressure.

The Nando’s Walk for Diabetes has seen a marked growth in registration numbers. In 2015, over 200 people took part, including the Minister of Health, Ms Dorcas Makgato-Malesu. This was a welcome departure from the 120 walkers reported in 2014. DAB has of late introduced a breakfast buffet after the Walk as a way to promote healthy eating.

Over and above the Nando’s Walk for Diabetes, Nando’s has supported the Youth Camp for kids living with diabetes in Gaborone as well as northern parts of the country.  “We look forward to sponsoring the World Diabetes Day Commemoration on the 12th November 2016 at Riverwalk Mall from 0800hrs. In order to reach as many Batswana as possible, the diabetes risk assessments are free for the public. To sweeten the offer, the first 400 participants get a free cap.”
