New Year’s Eve with Monique Bingham

House soul and jazz enthusiast can expect to close off 2016 with a bang, especially in the company of acclaimed ‘international house’ sensation Monique Bingham, who will be at the Grand Palm for one night only on December 31 2016.

The US born Bingham has been in the music industry since 1995 but considers South Africa her musical home. According to her website, the singer will be performing in South Africa throughout December, she will be at Intulo Lifestyle in Pietermaritzburg on 11 December and her last performance in that country will be on December 28 at Taung before she make her stop at the Grand Palm on New Year’s Eve.

Bingham has been responsible for some of the most poignant, soulful jazz- house music of the past 20 years. Her career began with the “acid jazz” horn heavy band Abstract Truth in 1995 whose seasoned members boasted stints with jazz gods Miles Davis, Herbie Hancock and Sun Ra to name a few. Their first single, “Get Another Plan” was recorded at Francois K‘s legendary Axis studios and received international critical acclaim once picked up by UK music guru Gilles Peterson’s imprint “Talkin Loud” in 1996.

The follow up single “We Had a Thing” released in 1998 became an indisputable soulful house classic due to German producer Matthias Heilbronn’s infectious house remix and its inclusion on South African DJ Fresh’s 2000 House Flava compilation.

Monique’s 2 decade milestone in the recording industry was marked by the release of her first album: “Best of the Last/Anthology:1995-2015” featuring 26 classic as well as new house tracks with Grammy award winner Louie Vega, Todd Terry, and South African house king and 2016 BET ward winner Black Coffee. Their collaboration “Deep in the Bottom (of Africa)” has cemented her standing as part of the Mzansi music revolution. She remains one of the most interesting and enduring artists the New York City underground has ever produced.

The songbird is best known for her hit, “Take Me To My Love” featuring Ralf Gum. She is the first ever non-South African artist to perform live for 12th annual Metro FM awards in 2013, and has also collaborated with legendary South African Jazz muso, Hugh Masekela (With Her Hand).
Bingham will perform alongside HK, Positive K, Cosmo, Choto and Easy B. Tickets are available at Computicket, Checkers, Shoprite OK furnitures and House and Home at P250 for standard tickets and P450 VIP tickets.

Mega Promotions, the event organisers revealed that there are limited standard tickets (1000) and 100 VIP tickets.
