Molemo JUB JUB Maarohanye And His Co- Accused Finally Released

Convicted murderer Molemo ‘Jub Jub’ Maarohanye and his co-accused Themba Tshabalala have been cleared of murder and released on parole.

The two were released on Thursday, according to Correctional Services which also confirmed that the South Gauteng High Court had instead; found the pair guilty of culpable homicide for killing four children in a 2010 car crash. “The Department of Correctional Services can confirm the parole placement of Katlego Molemo Maarohanye and Themba Shabalala as approved by the Correctional Supervision and Parole Boards (CSPBs) of Leeuwkop and Baviaanspoort with effect from 5 January 2017,” spokesperson Singabakho Nxumalo said in a statement.


Molemo ‘JUB JUB’ Maarohanye and his co-accused, Tshabalala, were in October 16, 2012, found guilty of murder, attempted murder, driving under the influence of drugs, and racing on a public road by the Protea Magistrate’s Court in Soweto. The two crashed their Mini Coopers into a group of schoolboys in Protea North, Soweto, on March 8, 2010 during a drag race and by October 2014, their murder convictions were overturned and converted to culpable homicide convictions.  


They were at that time, handed 20 years for murder but their sentences were reduced to 10 years, two of which were suspended. “To this date, each parolee has served four years, one month and one day behind bars,” Nxumalo said. “They will complete the remainder of the sentence in the system of community corrections, whereby they must comply with specific set of conditions and will be subjected to supervision until the sentence expires” Families of the victims have been invited to the parole board deliberations, and some participated.



Molemo ‘Jub Jub’ Maarohanye and Themba Tshabalala killed four school boys namely  Prince Mohube, Mlungisi Cwayi, Andile Mthombeni, and Phomello Masemola; while two others namely Frank Mlambo and Fumani Mushwana, were left permanently brain damaged.
