Chiefs deny Molome resignation

Mochudi Center Chiefs have downplayed mid week reports that their long standing chairman, Ernest Molome, is contemplating to tender his resignation from the club.

Allegedly Molome is considering stepping down to start a new life in politics, but the club media liaison, Clifford Mogomotsi, maintains these are misleading reports peddled by enemies of Center Chiefs.  ‘‘The management of Mochudi Centre Chiefs would like to inform everyone that contrary to speculation making rounds in the social media that Ernest Molome has resigned are false and baseless. We take this opportunity to further confirm that Mr Molome remains an integral part of the team. ‘We remain resolute in transforming the fortunes of the club and return to winning ways,’’ Mogomotsi said.

Molome is believed to own some stake in Mochudi Center Chiefs. These together with issues of ownership are some of the subjects that are said to have affected the team’s progress in the elite league this season. The team through its society, following last year court order, is expected to meet soon to iron out these differences, particularly the issue of the bonafide committee. As it is the case, there are two committees, one led by  Molome and the other by Tseing Ramocha.

Such anomaly has led to the team struggling to bring sponsors on board and consequently failing to win games. The team has however cited weariness as a mitigating circumstance in explaining their recent slump. The season is catching up with the Molome assembled squad at precisely the wrong time. Now in the 10th position, suspicion is growing that Chiefs are the stragglers in the pack at the bottom who could be caught at any day.

The faltering Premier League title defence and forensic examination of strategy before a major overhaul at Chiefs is surely on the cards. The holistic ethos that recruited Bongani Mafu as a coach from Zimbabwe and seek to harness all parts of the club for common good may remain, but at elite levels there will be a cold look at what has gone wrong and who is responsible should the club fail to bring some silverware this season.

However, this could be the summer of great change at Magosi. Since Boitekanelo group became part owners this year and began a P1 million-plus investment, there has not been as seismic a shake-up as the one being plotted by the hierarchy.
With much at stake, Chiefs are on the brink of losing their grip on the premier league cup which they are so desperately trying to win again.
