His lawyer, Leburu hopes to restore Mamelodi’s legacy as he defended him, desperately trying to trace Mamelodi’s story of success from the day he started moulding a recognizable league house.
Mamelodi came into the BFA picture in April 2012, and throughout the years, he has faced trials and tribulations of many kinds. He suffered media and public backlash in 2013 when he courted Supersport television to televise local games over Botswana Television (Btv). He had then expressed misgivings and doubts on the part of the state run television station.
While that remained a burning issue, there is no prize for guessing how Mamelodi and the BFA leadership are now two poles apart owing to accusations of office abuse and maladministration at the premier league. It is believed that the embattled CEO has put up with the matter for a long time and has now given up on repairing the relationship, which keeps deteriorating. Seemingly his only hope, is divine intervention. Those close to him say that he believes that there has always been a plot hatched to oust him and that his rivals have resorted to dirty tricks to achieve that.
His lawyer argued to the effect that, his client has been facing unfair treatment throughout. “The reputation of the applicant is now damaged. To charge my client basing on the audit report that is yet to be tried is tantamount to an offense, that is not even a suspicion…it is not fair,’’ argues Leburu. As things stand, BFA still refuse to comment on the issue of the forensic audit. This has raised eyebrows and provided more questions than answers.
While Justice Walia could not grant the applicant an interdict, there is hope that the blood brother of Ashford Mamelodi might return to the court, though not on urgency, to argue a case that may have far reaching consequences. Well, it might not take that devastating direction. The pendulum is always swinging.
His contract does not expire until September 2017. With at least 6 months left, ‘Bennito’ as he is sometimes called, is battling to bow out having restored some dignity to his name and legacy. The intent is to dismiss the authenticity of the audit and walk away with his lucrative package without being slashed. The association is steadfast on its insistency that despite the farcical nature of these events, a political decision was not taken in haste to taint a lifelong devotee of the game.

Mares 90 minutes WAFCON qualification
