Orapa drags As VITA to FIFA

Mascom Top 8 finalists Orapa United has reported their international football business partner, AS VITA, a club from the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC), to FIFA over suspicions of underhand tactics that involve and have delayed the transfer of their prolific striker, Onkabetse Makgantai.

Information from the diamond town depicts a love gone sour between the two clubs. The Ostriches, as Orapa United is affectionately called accuses the DRC club of resorting to unsporting tactics which go off the mark, by responding to messages in French. According to Orapa management, language becomes the first automatic barrier in the deal.

The transfer was categorized a ‘done deal’ few days before registration closed. However, United learnt about some unorthodox methods Vita used which halted everything. “We wanted the player on a permanent basis but they insisted on a loan deal because they knew they were yet to pay us the outstanding balance. They owed us U$25 000 (P250, 000) because they paid a year’s balance only despite the player having penned a two year contract,” the team newly elected media liaison Kabo William said.

Makgantai was expected to leave his club Orapa United with big smile as they expected to cash at least U$50 000 (P500, 000) from the transaction. The player was anticipated to earn U$ 5, 5 000 (P 55, 000) monthly while accommodated in guarded club estates. “When we requested for International Transfer Certificate (    ITC), the team was not on the Transfer Matching System (TMS) system which monitors the international football transfer market and publishes official data on global transfers to enhance transparency in football,” Williams said. He continued; “We then noticed that the team has two names; AS VITA and AS VIS and we then forwarded our complaints to FIFA who were equally surprised and are still looking into our case.”

The ostriches are reading some malice from their ‘business partners’. “They want us to give him game time because when he arrived here he was rusty and they want a loan deal because a lot of offers have come through. Platinum Stars wanted the player and an unknown French Club was also interested on the player. So knowing that the player is still ours, they wanted to delay everything so that they can benefit the most when exporting him,” said William. According to the team spokesperson, the player is training with them pending the FIFA outcome. Vita which is a traditional performer in the continental competitions “used French to respond to some Orapa United and BPL enquiries” causing a deadlock in communication.

The ostriches nest has managed to capture four players according to premier league files and Makgantai’s name is not in the list. Bogosi Kaekwe, Tumelo Majola, Kobamelo Kebaikanye are confirmed signings. Miscellaneous’ Tapiwa Nyamanjiva’s deal from is still pending. Makgantai inked a two-year deal with Vita last year.
The Linafoot Super League side won the race for the Orapa United forward who impressed at the 2016 COSAFA Castle Cup in Namibia scoring important goals for Botswana, and attracted interest from Platinum Stars and Baroka in South Africa.
