Where is the NWYC report?

The Local Organizing Committee (LOC) of the historic Netball World Youth Cup (NWYC) was this week at pains and could not shed light on when the much awaited report will be released.

The report, according to sources could have been submitted at least a month after the celebrated tournament, but is still at draft stage. This delay has led to the netball fraternity suspecting something fishy, and suspecting that the administration is still cooking up numbers and manufacturing words for the report to convince the nation.

The report is eagerly awaited by various stakeholders including the Ministry of Youth Empowerment Sports & Culture Development (MYSC) BNSC, BNOC and other sponsors. Government through ministry sponsored the event to the tune of P15 million. Already, there are suspicions going thick and fast that the LOC is dilly dallying because unethical activities might have prevailed surrounding the games.

The General Manager of the LOC Tebogo Kesupile could not commit to an interview with this publication, despite numerous attempts. However this publication can reveal that the report has yet to be compiled. “A number of factors are still being considered especially consultation with International Netball Federation (INF). An outline has been sent to them for approval then report will be started, it is thereafter that the close up phases will be done including media briefing for you to appreciate and ask anything,” a source told this paper this week.

The LOC is also reportedly also working hard to avoid the wrath of the usually no-nonsense Parliamentary Accounts Committee (PAC). In taking their time to put together the report, they are correlating numbers and information so they don’t contradict one another. “There are lots of stakeholders involved here, so the team ought to take their time and even audit the report especially the finances before they release the report. BNSC, BNOC, Ministry as well as the PAC are some of the interested parties on this so there is no time for shoddy work,” highlighted another source on Tuesday afternoon.

Up to now, the NWYC secretariat is still operational something which has been blamed on netball leadership for “rewarding their allies as they could have long drafted and submitted the report”. When quizzed about the report, Tebogo LebotseSebego, a front runner in the BNOC plum post, who is also the Public Relations Officer (PRO) of the organizing committee could only say, "NWYC 2017 final is winding down in December."
