Tswana Fashion introduces a twist to vintage clothing

Local Fashion house, Modern Tswana Fashion have surfaced the vintage trend and this time around with a different twist. They will be bringing a classified fashion twist to the traditional wear with a fusion of vintage. Themed ‘vintage Made Us,’ the event will be staged on the 4th of May 2019 at Thapong Visual Arts Centre from 6pm to 11pm.

Over the years there have been a lot of transitions over the fashion trends and hype within the fashion industry. We can’t doubt the love people have been having on vintage clothes lately and the style fused with today’s fashion have been nothing but a beauty to behold. “The purpose of the event is to combine the traditional fashion outfits with the latest fashion designs, a fusion of the old fashion with the latest culture,” founder of Modern Tswana Fashion Week, Nchidzi James Chikumo explained to WeekendLife.

Chikumo said unlike other fashion houses or events, the event will be unique as it will bring the audience and society of Botswana closer to their cultural fashion roots and also play a role in appetizing their latest fashion taste.“Since its inception the event has gotten the recognition and feedback it deserves from fashion designers to event attendees, the models and fashion stylists as our style and theme is different from other fashion shows hosted by other fashion event organizers,” he said.

The upcoming fashion event will not only showcase outfits inspired by the Setswana traditional fashion mixed with the modern day fashion designs in Botswana but the same outfits will be designed and made by Modern Tswana Fashion house. He highlighted that the theme was inspired by the fact that it is through the classic traditional fashion designs that they developed the new modern fashion designs hence the theme ‘Vintage Made Us’.

“So what we are going to do is redesign the cultural fashion designs and blend them with modern day materials and fashion designs,” he said. Tickets for this event can be found at WebTickets (Riverwalk mall) all spar outlets in Gaborone and Pickn Pay Sebele mall and Pick n Pay Riverwalk mall. Tickets can also be found online at www.webtickets.co.bw.
