BFA scrutinizes Zapata’s qualifications

Botswana Football Association (BFA) technical wing has given Coach Rudolf Zapata an ultimatum to submit his complying qualifications if he is to sit in the dugout this season.

Dragjolio Stanolovich is also reported to have been asked the same. The two gaffers are expected to lead Notwane and Township Rollers respectively in the second half of the season as the two sides look for a best possible finish to the league. Reports from Lekidi indicate that both Township Rollers and Notwane were requested once again to submit coaching licenses of their coaches. According to sources from Lekidi, both Zapata and Drago are likely not to be given the green light to coach due to their unsatisfactory qualifications.

BFA technical director Serame Letsoaka is reported to have been scrutinizing technical qualifications in Botswana as part of the club licensing compliance manual.  Under the long sang club licensing chorus, a head coach of a first team should have a minimum requirement of CAF B license, this falls under Administrative and personnel category.

The two coaches who hail from Serbia and Argentina respectively have their qualifications tailored in UEFA and CONCACAF standards. This is the reason why the two teams have been requested to once again submit something equivalent to CAF B licenses. “Zapata’s work permits are still processed so the relevant authorities wanted the equivalence of his coaching certificate as to whether it is matching with what is required in Botswana-CAF B license,” BFA CEO Mfolo Mfolo said in an interview.

He further stated; “We have been in contact with CAF so that they give us its equivalence. We are still waiting for the response before end of business today (Friday).” As for Drago who has been in the country since 2013, Mfolo says he is not aware of any glitches with his coaching papers. “As for Drago I don’t know anything of that sort,” he briefly said. Drago was roped in by Notwane after they parted ways with Pio Paul late last year. He is expected to maintain or improve the team’s log standing as the team targets top eight finish. ‘Sechaba’ is currently occupying 10th position with 18 points

On the other hand Zapata has mammoth of task as he has to maintain Rollers perfect start to the league. The former Gaborone United mentor joined the team after they lost out Nikola Kavazovic. Popa is currently perched at the summit of the BTC premiership with 36 points from 15 outings.

The team has Orapa United breathing heavily on their neck with 32 points. This is a challenge Zapata should overcome if he is to write himself on the hearts of the usually hard to please Rollers fans. Rollers will take on Jwaneng Galaxy tomorrow (Sunday) at National Stadium in a super Sunday clash.
