Kavindama’s P60k shoes steals the show

Ineeleng Kavindama, dubbed the “Fashion queen” by South African media turned heads when she set the Budget Speech red carpet on fire with her uniquely gorgeous outfit that caused an uproar on social media.

Kavindama, who is the daughter of the late former Okavango legislator, Joseph Kavindama, wore a suit brown skirt with floral elbow length jacket, a Givenchy handbag and the acclaimed metallic gold cage  Dolce & Gabanna shoe that cost her approximately P60 000. The look, she says was inspired by the former US First Lady Jackie Kennedy later known as Jackie Onassis or Jackie O. “She always had that effortless classic elegance when dressed by Channel then. I followed her look when I was a fashion designer right until her departure in 1994,” Kavindama told WeekendLife.

The much hyped fashion queen said it should not come as a shock that her Dolce&Gabanna shoes stole the show at the Budget speech because she is the original “Fashion Queen.”  The assertive IK, as affectionately called, emphasised that people should take into consideration that ever since her retirement from the fashion scene more than 20 years ago, there has never been a female fashion designer to be given that title.

“People on social media who were not there during my reign should understand why the South African media called me the ‘Fashion Queen’. I was at the forefront of the Ndebele Fashion that you see now on the streets, I made ‘maphondo’ trendy back then. People in the streets wore overalls because I made them fashionable. TheDolce&Gabanna are not just your ordinary shoes, they are a work of art hence the exorbitant price tag,”IK pointed out.

The retired Motswana fashionista independently laid all the ground work for today’s modern day men and women of studied elegance. 20 years ago IK won the Best Designer for Menswear at the South African Fashion Designers Association. Kavindama was also the first Motswana to showcase in the first Mnet Face of Africa in 1997 and successively also the first Motswana to participate in the South African Fashion Week in 1997 and 1999.

Her spectacular rise continued when IK became the first ever Motswana Fashion Designer to be featured on the American basic cable and satellite television news channel, The Cable News Network (CNN). Furthermore, IK became the first Motswana designer to grace several South African mediums such as Sunday World, Sunday Times, The Star, City Press, Sowetan,YFM, Metro FM and SABC1’s and popular magazine, Selimathunzi with her appealing supremacy.
