Township Rollers faces an uphill battle to correct and rebuke Mothusi Cooper’s behavior few weeks after the player was suspended from national team duty for drinking intoxicating waters while on camp.
It is reported that the midfield dynamo has also rubbed Rollers’ management the wrong way after failing to control his drinking spree. Sources at Rollers state that the head coach, Thomas Trucha, has expressed serious concern over Cooper’s attitude and has proposed that the player be suspended until he fully reforms. However, some at Rollers have dismissed Cooper’s suspension as a ‘manufactured story’. There say the player handed in a sick leave after coming face to face with some health complications.
Motshegetsi Mafa, Township Rollers longest serving players’ manager, said it is all lies that Coopers is sidelined because of some alleged way ward behavior. “Some people are never honest; they should always seek answers from us rather than rushing to destroy our players. Cooper is not well and was giving sick leave that’s it!” Mafa said. Cooper was not part of Rollers squad in the last two games and this has fuelled speculation surrounding his whereabouts.
At the national team, Coach Adel Amrouche has made it clear that he will not work with him until he fully reforms. The player was suspended alongside Onkabetse Makgantai, Thero Setsile and Mothusi Johnson after been caught red handed with beer. Cooper himself is yet to make a public comment about his fitness and the alleged unsporting behavior. He could not be reached for comment as his phone was off at the time of going to print.
The player’s reputation is slowly taking a knock after he was recruited to embody the future of the club. He caught the attention of the country while playing for Lobatse’s Extension Gunners. But his market stock rose while at Rollers, at club he said he wanted to write his name into folklore. His impressive performance at the last years’ COSAFA Castle cup tournament left clubs questioning about his contract with Rollers. It is said, however, that Rollers are not in a position to sell Cooper.
Although, denying Coopers’ problems, Rollers had similar problems with Ofentse Nato. The club managed the situation the same way they are doing with Cooper. Cooper's strength of character, though, should not be underestimated. He has always known what he has wanted, from when he left home to join Gunners’ academy, to battling through a testing start at Township Rollers, when talent was over pouring at the time of his arrival. Mares 90 minutes WAFCON qualification
Crunch time has arrived for the Mares, the women’s senior national team of Botswana, as they face a crucial encounter against Kenya, also known as the Harambee Starlets.
