Popa signs Ghanaian striker from Kenyan outfit

Ghanaian forward Francis Afriyie from Kenyan premiership champions Gor Mahia signs two and a half year contract.

BTC premiership championship Township Rollers has announced the signing of Ghanaian forward Francis Afriyie from Kenyan premiership champions Gor Mahia.
The 24 year-old former has signed two and half year contract with the defending champions.

Afriyie arrived at Mapalastina camp after a short spell with the Kenyan Premier League outfit Gor Mahia after netting six goals from 11 league appearances after joining them during the beginning of the 2019/20 season. The towering striker has previously plied his trade with FK Vojvodina, a Serbian professional football club based in Novi Sad, before making a switch to the North America to play for Murciélagos Football Club, a Mexican football club that plays in the Liga Premier in Mexico.

According to various international media reports, the former Bechem United player was forced to move away from Gor Mahia due to unpaid salaries hence he was subsequently linked with a move to Spain.

Following the arrival of Afriyie, Mapalastina now have four foreigners under its books but the Botswana Football Association (BFA) play rules and regulations allow only three foreigners per club. The new development means the defending champions would have to release another foreign player to make way for the Ghanaian. The three foreign players Fabien Mongba, Irvin Mbowa and Kamogele Matsabu have been all fringe players at Rollers, with the trio failing to earn a regular starting berth in the line-up.
Mongba, the Ivorian striker joined the Popa during the beginning of the 2019/20 season from Namibian side Young African Club after he scored 6 goals during the starts of the Namibian premiership.

The striker has failed to make an impact on the Blues under, Tomas Trucha who was shown the door in December, as he has made few appearance for the club. Mongba is yet to score his first goal for the blues. Another foreigner player, who might be released during the current transfer window is Mbowa, the Ugandan anchorman also failed to make the name for himself under the Trucha. Mbowa arrived at the blues at the start of the season together with Mongba and he was seen as perfect replacement for his fellow countrymen Ivan Ntege who left to join Ugandan club.

The Ugandan anchorman has failed to cement his place on the starting eleven, as he is used after Maano Ditshupo and Mothusi Cooper.
