Publishing Date : 04 June, 2019

After scooping the title for Miss Botswana Bikini model under theme ‘alcohol and drug abuse,’ Boikhutso Gakeonyatse will be boarding a flight to Nigeria to compete for a bigger pageant, Miss Pan Queen International Africa in Lagos.

Miss Pan Africa 2019 will be held under the theme ‘celebrating the African woman it’s your turn to be celebrated.’ Miss Pan African Queen International Beauty Pageant and Reality show is a Project that is aimed at empowering the African Girl child through Entertainment platforms to become great leaders in the Continent. The organiser of the event, Goratamang Monametsi shared with WeekendLife that the two pageants promote culture, beauty of a woman and young upcoming models by grooming them.

“This was the third edition of Botswana Bikini Model 2019 in Botswana and the queen walked away with cash prizes and hampers. We had few sponsors that helped the event to be successful,” she said. Meanwhile Gakeonyatse is being groomed to compete in Lagos where she will be contending for the title with other beauty pageants from the rest of Africa.

The pageant addresses issues of importance across the African continent which count from abuse towards the African Girl child in the areas of prostitution, unemployment, lack of quality education, proper empowerment, lack of basic skills to compete globally and the need to bring long lasting solutions to these challenges. Last year title was scooped by Botswana, after Kealeboga Keakopa went to represent Botswana at last year Miss Pan African. The reigning Miss Pan Africa Queen International 2018 also assisted in judging contestants for Miss Botswana Bikini Model, marking Gakeonyatse as fit to represent the country in Lagos.

“The event is a yearly event which is filled with glamour and lots of entertainment, enlightenment, empowerment activities, from the Camping to the Grand finale. The event has played host to top Players in the African Entertainment, Politics, and Business sector,” she explained.
“Contestants are selected from all over Africa through an audition process. Both Live and online qualified finalists are then invited to camp to contest for the top spot.”

Monametsi also stated that Miss Pan African has an honorary award presented to distinguished Africans who have in the year made meaningful impact in their different fields of endeavors, which is the Pan African icon award. “The Pan African fashion show was created with the aim to empower young fashion designers across Africa with a platform to showcase their designs. Thereby showcasing African Designs, and model's to the world,” she hinted.

Monametsi further shared about the contestant’s empowerment Projects which they will be judged on. “The organisation have embarked on series of empowerment programmes in rural areas. As part of their visions they have been able to start up a feed Africa campaign that have so far fed over 7000 women, men and children as well as doing community skills empowerment training Programmes,” she said.
