BTC appoints two additional independent non-executive directors

Botswana Telecommunications Corporation Limited (BTC) is pleased to announce the appointment of Mr Thari G. Pheko and Mr. Bafana Molomo to its Board of Directors as independent non-executive Directors with effect from 1st April 2018.

Thari Pheko

Mr.Pheko is the founding Chief Executive and Board Member of Botswana Communications Regulatory Authority (BOCRA). He served as Chief Executive of the Botswana Telecommunications Authority (BTA) for six years prior.  He managed the transition of BTA from the then sector specific regulator to BOCRA which has a wider integrated Information Communication Technology (ICT) regulatory mandate.

He is Board member of the Choppies Boitumelo Foundation and was recently nominated Commissioner of the Botswana National Commission for United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organisation (UNESCO). He has served in a number of ICT consultancies and has held several directorships in private companies including State Owned Enterprises (SEOs) such as Botswana Post and Botswana Couriers. 

Mr. Pheko holds a B.Sc. (Hons) in Business Finance and Economics and a M.Sc. in Management Information System both from the University of East Anglia, UK. He has also attended numerous Executive Management Programs.

Bafana Molomo

Mr. Molomo is Co-founder and Managing Partner at Aleyo Capital, a Botswana-based private equity fund manager. He was previously the Chief Investment Officer at the Botswana Development Corporation (BDC) having joined BDC from Vantage Capital – a leading mezzanine fund manager based in Johannesburg and operating across Sub-Saharan Africa.

At Vantage Capital, Mr. Molomo was a Senior Associate originating and structuring deals in South Africa, Botswana, Namibia and Mozambique. Prior to that he was with Venture Partners Botswana as a senior investment professional in their private equity team in Botswana and Namibia. Mr Molomo who began his career as an investment analyst and has extensive experience in private equity, corporate finance, strategy and project finance, has held a number of Board roles in Hospitality, Healthcare, ICT, Property, Fast Moving Consumer Goods (FCMG) and Beverage companies.

He holds a Bachelor of Commerce (Economics and Finance) and a Master of Business Administration (MBA) both from the University of Cape Town. He also earned a Post-graduate Diploma in Business from the University of Pretoria’s Gordon Institute of Business Science.
