Magosi kicks out Kgosi’s right hand man from DIS

Publishing Date : 21 May, 2018

Author : TEBOGO KGALEMANG

The new Directorate of Intelligence and Security Services (DISS) Director, Brigadier Peter Magosi this week fired Isaac Kgosi’s right hand man, Brigadier Sentsekae Terry Macheng from the intelligence department. The move, it is said, will be the next in the ‘clean up’ campaign the new boss is launching as he prepares to rid the agency of all internal threats.

Macheng was one of Former President Lt. General Ian Khama’s loyalists. The former president had last year moved him from the position of National Anti-Poaching Coordinator, Botswana Defence Force (BDF) to the Office of the President, as Chief of Staff, DISS. When three DISS officers were caught up in an elephant poaching scandal in Makalamabedi, Boteti Sub District last year, Macheng was at the time heading the Anti-Poaching Unit though he did not take action against the men. This publication can confirm that Magosi was leading the team that nabbed the three men.

WeekendPost is reliably informed that Former President Khama’s plan at the time was to have Macheng replace Kgosi in future as he wanted Kgosi to be sent outside the country as they were in the same group. He had hoped for continuity even after handing the baton to the new President Mokgweetsi Masisi. The plan however, did not materialise as President Masisi is currently expelling a lot of ‘Khama’s men’.

Sources in the intelligence circle have revealed that Brigadier Magosi has set himself a target to clean up three major areas of threats to deal with Kgosi’s parallel system, lest they defeat his efforts. “For now he is concentrating on unaccounted manpower and or ghost personnel, unaccounted equipment and inventory audit. Kgosi had his personal intelligence unit operating under the country’s intelligence unit. He had spread people to all spheres of life including the private sector,” said the source.

This publication is also aware that next to be axed after Macheng is a woman (name known to this publication) who was once regarded as untouchable in the intelligence circle. The woman has since been placed under heavy surveillance. Last Thursday night, this publication has learnt, the woman was tailed by intelligence officers everywhere she went.

The woman owns a house in one of the ‘Blocks’ and it is suspected that the house was being used to stash some security equipment belonging to the DIS. According to sources, the said house in Gaborone is unoccupied, and the woman hardly visits it. The yard is heavily secured, with security cameras all around it.

It has come to the attention of this publication that the house has since been locked for the Magosi led team to inspect the equipment. It is said that Brigadier Magosi’s biggest nightmare is the unaccounted for equipment. Despite the fact that a lot of money was said to have been used to purchase equipment for the intelligence unit, he was perplexed to find none in the office.
