Be Free Christian Church, a Mogoditshane based church last weekend announced P35 000 worth of scholarship to nine less privileged school going children in Mogoditshane.

The church also donated toiletry and school uniform to the students who are still studying at Lesirane Primary School. The money will be paid to the students annually until they reach tertiary level.

The church has also sponsored a less privileged student to study Occupational Health and Safety at Gaborone Universal College of Law. Prophet Keletso Moenda said these deeds are a sign of love and the church will continue helping the less privileged.

Prophet Moenda was quick to state that the beneficiaries where not members of the church but God’s guidance made them the beneficiaries. This is despite the fact that the church has children in similar situation or who are even worse.

Prophet Moenda said it was important that as a church they continue giving out to the less privileged as they will receive more blessings from God in return, emphasising the bible verse, “blessed is the hand that giveth, than the one that receiveth.”

Councillor for the area Ofentse Shaka Ditshube expressed his gratitude to the church for the gesture. He said the significance of the donation could not be underestimated. Ditshube said the area had a number of children who are faced with poverty and not being able to afford some basic needs. The beneficiaries, the parents of the pupils were elated by the development and showed their gratitude as well.

“I was struggling with raising this kid because of my welfare but now I feel my burden has been lifted,” said Thapelo Mangope, a parent to one of the beneficiaries.

Lesang Temogo was also impressed with the decision taken by the church to choose among others her child. “I’m very humbled by the church gesture, for what it has done,” she said.

The handing over, which was done during the Sunday church service was also attended by notable members of the society like the Village Development Committee (VDC) Chairperson and the village chief among others.
